All external applications for September 2020 should be received by Friday 13th December
How should I prepare for my Guidance Meeting?
You need to make sure that you know why you want to join us at Blue Coat. You will be asked about the subjects that you want to study, so make sure that you can talk about your choices. We will also want to know a bit about you, what type of student you are, where your future ambitions lie, what activities you do both inside and outside school other than your academic studies.
What will I need to bring with me to my Guidance meeting?
Make sure that you read your invite carefully and bring all of the necessary documentation with you (this will differ depending on whether you are an internal or external candidate). If you intend to join Blue Coat from another school then you will need evidence of your current progress (latest report/mock results).
What should I wear for my meeting?
You do not need to dress up, many students come to our meetings straight from school and so we are happy to see you in your school uniform or alternatively in something smart/casual.
When will I hear if I have been successful in securing a place in the Sixth Form?
We usually conduct our Guidance Meetings between late January and March and aim to let all students know in March/April.
When do I need to let Blue Coat know that I want to accept my place?
We need to know as soon as possible if you want to join us at Blue Coat so that we can secure your timetable arrangements. Your offer letter will clearly state a date for return of interest – please make sure that you let us know by the date given.
What do I do if I change my mind about what subjects I want to study at A Level?
We appreciate that your choices may change as you get nearer to your GCSE’s. If you do change your mind then please contact school with your change of subject and we will do our very best to make sure that we accommodate your adjustments.
When do I enrol?
Enrolment takes place on the same day that you receive your GCSE results in the summer. We enrol students from Blue Coat in the morning session and ask that students joining us from other schools join us for the afternoon enrolment sessions. Exact times will be given to you when you join us for our Pre-enrolment day in July.
What should I do on results day if I don’t quite get the grades that I need?
We acknowledge that GCSE’s are currently in a stage of reform and that there is a degree of uncertainty about the new grading structure. Achieving the above criteria guarantees students their offer of a place at Blue Coat Sixth Form, however in such uncertain times we are happy to discuss the results of individual students who don’t quite meet the thresholds for entry, but we cannot guarantee you a place.
